Shelley Webster
I’ve always loved nature and artistic opportunities. When I was younger, I was often drawing, colouring and creating sculptures. My love for art and nature grew and I found myself at a point where I needed to make a decision …do I pursue art or nature? That being said, I went to Fanshawe College and completed the Commercial Art Program.
Then life got in the way. I married and had two beautiful girls. I put my artistic needs to the side until they grew and left home. Now that I have been able to pursue more of my passions, I have enjoyed creating with beach glass, pebbles, pen and ink and now creating with glass. My love for nature allowed me to gather beach glass and pebbles along the shores of Lake Erie. I have enjoyed numerous trips to Algonquin park and have created many works with an Algonquin feel. A lot of my pen and ink works share the subject of animals.
One of the reasons why I love nature so much is to see animals. As much as I love nature and doing pen and ink drawings, I have found a new love of creating with glass; actually, it’s glass fusing and stained glass. I have purchased a kiln and so much glass! As I’m a beginner, only been doing this for three years; I find working with glass an adventure in learning. I love that glass offers a limitless array of creative opportunities. There are few materials that interact with light as beautifully as glass. I find the process incredibly therapeutic. And there’s nothing quite like the pride of holding a finished piece of glass art that I’ve made with my own hands.
