ART MEETS WOOD by Sheila

For years, Sheila was a woodworker in search of a spark. While she loved the craft, she was looking for that one "hero" product—the piece that would turn a hobby into a calling. That "ah-ha" moment arrived in early 2018 when her husband requested an end-grain cutting board. With that single project, Kitchen Wood Etc. was born, the "Etc." serving as a placeholder for a future Sheila hadn't yet imagined. That future arrived in December 2020 in the form of a lathe. Despite having never used one, Sheila was determined to expand her kitchen inventory with bowls and pepper mills. The moment the chisel met the spinning wood, everything changed. The "flat work" of her past took a backseat to the fluid, organic possibilities of woodturning. She was hooked. Her transition from craft to fine art was validated by the local arts community. Sought out by a gallery looking for the rare perspective of a female turner, Sheila began to see her work through a different lens. After seeing her pieces accepted and sold in local art exhibits, she finally retired the phrase, "I'm a woodworker, not an artist." Today, her work represents the perfect marriage of raw nature and refined skill. To mark this evolution, she has rebranded her studio to Art Meets Wood by Sheila. Whether it’s a functional bowl or a gallery centerpiece, her work invites you to appreciate the grain, the history, and the artistry in every turn.
