Michele Lawton

Plein Air Artist Chatham-Kent (PAACK)

As a self-taught artist, Michele prefers to work in oils. She has explored various artistic disciplines, honing her skills and developing her unique voice in oil painting. Over the past seven years, Michele has immersed herself in the local plein air painting community as well as attending workshops with Canadian painters such as Jamie Jardine, Gordon Harrison, John David Anderson, Denise Antaya, Sam Paonessa, and Andrew Cheddie Sookrah.

Her artistic discipline is inherently inspired by the nature and colours of Chatham-Kent, leading her to be particularly drawn to bright colour and contrast. Michele’s work features colourful brushstrokes and her way of seeing the landscape. She is influenced by the techniques and colours of the Group of Seven, Doris McCarthy, Canadian and Quebec Impressionists and French Impressionists.

Michele has competed in the Kingsville Great Migration Paint Out for the past three years, as well as the 2024 McMichael En Plein Air Competition, showcasing her ability to capture the essence of nature through her vibrant works. With a passion for portraying light and atmosphere, she invites viewers to experience the beauty of the outdoors through her paintings.
