Çağla Erginer
My name is Çağla, and I have been practicing pottery since 2021 under the guidance of Andrea Vuletin. I primarily work on the wheel, while also exploring handbuilding techniques to complement my forms.
For me, clay is both a material and a process. Working on the wheel has taught me patience, acceptance, and adaptability. I often begin with a vision, but pottery has shown me that outcomes cannot always be controlled, and that is part of its value. Even when a piece does not succeed, nothing is wasted. Clay can be reclaimed, and each attempt builds skill and understanding. The true reward lies in the process rather than the final object.
I enjoy combining wheel thrown forms with handbuilt elements, such as organic necks or geometric handles. My focus is primarily on form and structure rather than surface decoration. I tend to use layered dipping glazes to enhance the natural qualities of each piece instead of detailed underglaze work.
As someone from Türkiye, I grew up in a culture where gathering around the table is central to daily life. This connection influences my work deeply. I create functional pieces meant to be used, shared, and experienced. For me, pottery becomes complete when it is part of a meal, bringing people together and enhancing the experience of food.
